What is Trauma Sensitive Yoga ?
Trauma sensitive yoga is an evidence-based treatment that can reduce symptoms such as:
• PTSD, & Anxiety, sadness, anger
• Confusion, insomnia, heightened state
• Exhaustion & mood swings
"Trauma disconnects the body and mind and this practice reconnects them"
Who is Trauma Sensitive Yoga suitable for?
As most people will experience trauma at some point in their life, anyone can benefit from this practice.
What is trauma?
Trauma can be any life changing event such as death of a loved one, divorce, relationship breakdown or loss. However, it can be more complex which can be rooted in childhood issues, relationship problems, violence, violation, abuse, addiction, serious illness and pain etc. In addition, people working in fields where they are more likely to encounter trauma — such as caregivers, first responders, military personnel — may benefit.
How does Trauma Sensitive Yoga work?
After any traumatic event we are often left "in our heads" still living in survival mode and not present in the moment or body. This style of yoga brings the body into treatment complementing conventional talk therapies and can support healing and recovery by:
Reconnecting with your body in a safe, supportive environment
Learning to calm your nervous system/sooth the bodies alarm system
Learning to calm down & self-regulate
Experience the present moment and cultivate positive emotions
Increasing spatial awareness and body attunement
Rewiring the brain, creating new responses in the body as oppose to trauma responses
Practicing making choices and taking effective action
Testimonials
''Your trauma sensitive yoga is truly amazing. It helped my daughter and I to learn more about what happens in our bodies after trauma and ways to manage any triggers. Many of the techniques you showed us we still use today. Such a unique approach that should be taught far and wide." Sam and daughter Rockingham WA
"Thank you Jo, for creating a space were I could work on my anxiety, work on my anger. Gather the tools to be a better person mind, body and soul. Giving me the tools to move forward, release anger. Except when people treat others bad, its a reflection on them not me. Realise its ok to outgrow people and move forward with my own life in a positive way. You are amazing and I can't wait to join you in more classes."
